Detailed description

Logistics is an important business sector. Its requirements and impacts on the efficiency of the society, and thus on the living standards, are enormous. Logistics is a tool which could be effectively used to acquire competitive advantage and its importance is recognized all over the world. In this context, it is possible to see the increased demands on experts in the Czech Republic and abroad. This is due to the fact that the importance of logistics is not obvious only in the manufacturing sector, but in almost all companies and organizations.

In addition, logistical costs have become a serious problem for many companies in the globalising industry. Although strong emphasis is put on areas such as quality and customer service, reducing costs is considered the most important factor.  Globalization has influenced logistics by increasing competition, which made Czech companies to look for a new ways to distinguish themselves from the others. They are focused on logistics so that they are able to provide more reliable and flexible services than their foreign competitor. At the same time, the Czech companies nowadays cooperate more with the foreign companies, which leads to extending logistics chain between the company and its business partners, thus becoming more costly and more complex. If a company wants to be able to take full advantage of global opportunities, it needs a quality logistics system including qualified experts.

Other requirements on the “logistics experts” are related to the appearance of foreign companies in the Czech Republic. These multinational institutions cooperate with Czech companies remain faithful to the traditional logistics chains abroad, in which Czech companies are often integrated. Logistics thus becomes one of the main priorities of the economic and social development of the state and its individual regions. It belongs among the most important parts of the strategic development programmes of each region, including the South Bohemian region. Logistics thus becomes the basis of conceptual planning and for decision-making processes, preparatory and project documentation of planned investment.

In logistics, the state and public administrative bodies are interconnected with a private sector, domestic entities are interconnected with foreign ones, and the manufacturing sector is interconnected with services. This increases the competitiveness of all Czech market operators, which has positive influence on the employment rate in the Czech Republic.

Graduates

Graduates in Logistic technologies are university-educated, technically trained logistics managers in supply, purchase, warehousing, production control, dispatching managers, logistics managers, or heads of planning and forecasting offices. The specialization is based on the acquisition of the optimization principles and logistics systems synthesis along with the knowledge and experience in planning and forecasting, computerization and controlling and design of logistics systems the graduates are able to use, operate and apply for the given field.

Graduates employability

The graduates can find work in leading technical positions in logistics – distribution, warehousing, packaging and handling, transport, and production. The graduates can also be employed as logistics systems designers in technical solutions for production, transport, material handling, identification and packaging, supply, sales, marketing, maintenance, etc. The graduates of the Master´s Degree study programme Logistic technologies are able to manage the whole supply chain, that is, the goods, financial and information flows, ensure , manage and design logistics systems, warehouses, distribution systems, reverse flows of goods, optimize the operation of technology and systems and propose such optimizations. The graduates are able to solve complex projects individually or in team. The concept of the Logistics Technologies enables the graduates to enter the labor market to perform a profession with a qualification requirement for a Master´s study programme graduate with required knowledge and skills. This provides a basis for the versality of the graduates and the possibility of their further specialization in logistics and logistics technologies within the student professional work experience, specialization within the studied field or in the follow-up PhD study programmes.
