The Centre of Language Services at the Faculty of Corporate Strategy ensures all language teaching at the Institute of Technology and Business in České Budějovice, including English and German (general language) as the main languages taught in all Bachelor study programmes. On top of that, two Bachelor and two follow-up Master study programmes involve specified professional languages (civil engineering, mechanical engineering and logistics). The learning outcomes are B2 or B1+ (professional language), reflecting specific fields of study.
In the lessons, we work with professional learning texts and authentic materials in English and German. Our members also create their learning materials within various projects, e.g. Content and language-integrated learning – CLIL in cooperation with the University of Applied Sciences in Austria. The project involved experts from practice and our institute, producing professional learning materials in English, German and Czech, a trilingual dictionary of professional terminology and interactive materials for testing basic language skills in specific fields. we also collaborate on the project ‘Common Language, Common Future’ supporting teaching German and Czech in border areas. We would also like to collaborate with other Czech and foreign educational institutions on projects to explore new methods of teaching languages, adult education and using digital technologies in language teaching.
Our teachers are fully qualified foreign language teaching professionals, cooperating with native speakers.
On top of teaching, we offer additional language services including translations of standard or professional (mechanical and construction engineering, transport and logistics, economics etc.) texts from and to English, German, Russian, Ukrainian, Spanish and Latin. Our centre also provides proofreading of Czech and foreign documents and interpreting to the Faculty of Corporate Strategy and the Institute of Technology and Business in České Budějovice.
Our teaching and other language services expand beyond the borders of ITB, where the public can use assistance in interpreting, translations and language courses within external services. Our offer covers standard language (English, German, Russian, French, Spanish, Latin and Czech for foreign learners), professional language courses, conversation lessons, business correspondence etc. We can also tailor a language course to the student’s needs, including an intensive one-week language course, preparation for language exams or stay abroad, courses for beginners, intermediate or advanced students in face-to-face or online form of teaching etc.
We are an official centre for Cambridge Exam preparation.
